Mirrors of Racism
The campaign Mirrors of Racism for the NGO Criola was launched after Maju, a well-known meteorologist in Brazil, was the subject of racist taunts online.
W3haus first tracked down the racist tweets and posts online using geotagging data to discover the location of the offenders. Then, they printed out the offensive posts (blurring out the author’s ID) on billboards near their homes.
The purpose of the campaign was to bring "virtual" racism out into the real world, strategically using public shaming to deter people from posting hate messages online.
